Reverse osmosis is when water under high- pressure is fed into a semi-permeable membrane. Pure water can pass through and out in the membrane as purified permeate water. Dissolved mineral salts are not allowed to pass through the membrane and become a concentrated rejecting stream sent to drain. These RO systems use high-rejection membranes to achieve a minimum average stabilized salt rejection of up to 96%.
